The End of Politic[ician]s

The last Presidential election in Portugal [last January 22nd] proved once more that Portugal, as many other European States [for the least] lacks a new generation of strong political leaders.

One might say that this has always happened and that electors are simply more demanding.

In any case, the Portuguese King D. Sebastião de Portugal, which disapeared in a military campaign within the Portuguese conquests which took place in northern Africa in the 16th century is still a present image [a metaphor, obviously], for the almost divine salvation of the Portuguese Nation: his return in a white horse, covered by mist and mistery.

As it is made obvious, H.H. D Sebastião de Portugal will not return and one even ignores if H.H. would be the answer for all our problems.

In any case, one must find new leaders and it was mentioned here some weeks ago, the two main candidates for the Presidency have already assumed relevant positions as leaders of Government and, in one case [Mr. Soares], as a President for two mandates.

We do value experience, but we also value expertise.

Representation is the upmost feature of a President and it is thus demanded a strong fibre in moral terms and image towards the world [which clearly includes sound preparation for social venues and relationships and the sense of compromise].

Is Mr. Silva up to it?

In nowadays Europe, everything seems possible. Let us try and trick the probabilities by investing in Education and Culture. Please prioritise. Resources and time are limited and one wants sharp results. Our wanted result is better quality of life for all. Are you in?
